The village of Chãos is part of the Alcobertas parish, in the municipality of Rio Maior. It is located on a plateau on the southern slope of the Serra dos Candeeiros, at the summit of the mountain range. 1 – Shepherd for a Morning
This activity consists of a hike in the Serra dos Candeeiros alongside a flock of sheep. Starting with the milking process and passing by some of the most interesting local and cultural sites, this is a unique way to appreciate the slow sunrise over the Serra dos Candeeiros. 2 – Shepherd for a Morning with Local Tasting
This experience follows the same route as “Shepherd for a Morning” but ends with a tasting of local products, including wine, bread, olive oil, local sausages, olives, and cheese, enjoyed in the mountains alongside the flock.

3 – Shepherd for a Day
Participants are invited to spend a full “day” with the shepherd, being introduced to the daily tasks of the profession. The experience begins with milking and, when necessary, feeding the baby goats, includes a midday snack featuring local products, and ends with returning the animals to the stable.This unforgettable journey along the mountain paths offers insight into a shepherd’s daily life and a chance to observe various species of native flora.
