Marca is a non-profit Local Development Association based in Montemor-o-Novo, in the district of Évora. Promoting the social and economic development of the region, Marca seeks solutions to local and global challenges, engaging and bringing citizens and institutions together in the search for these solutions in a sustainable way, contributing to the improvement of the population’s quality of life.”SAÍDAS DE MESTRE” is an initiative by Marca – ADL that consists of a series of creative workshops based on local knowledge and partnerships with local entities, combining art, heritage, and the environment.At Inland, you can choose from three experiences
1 – ALENTEJO PAINTING
Traditional Alentejo handcrafted furniture is decorated with floral and foliage paintings on white or colorful backgrounds—blue, green, or red. The artisan uses a distinctive brushstroke technique, with a firm and expressive gesture.This workshop offers an introduction to the technique and expression of Alentejo painting, allowing participants to experiment with the characteristic gestures and color palette of this art.
The activity takes place in a nursery of native Mediterranean species. Duration: 2 to 3 hours
2 – DYE PLANTS
Natural dyeing is the process of coloring natural fibers, such as cotton or wool, using natural processes and dyes. This activity follows the rhythm of nature, as the dyes are extracted from flowers, seeds, fruits, barks, and roots of plants or even insects.In this workshop, participants will dye wool using various plant species traditionally used in the Alentejo region, respecting the seasonality of the plants.

3 – BASKETRY
Basketry is the art of working with plant fibers to create objects, originally baskets. This craft is deeply connected to the regions where it is practiced, both through the use of local materials and its functional relationship with agricultural and cultural activities. Basketry is one of the oldest known crafts.This workshop invites participants to create a basketry object using different techniques and a variety of local plant materials.
