Day One

In this tour we will visit a Manufacture of Cow Bells (UNESCO inscription 2015) in Alcáçovas. Get ready to listen to the sound, also with a specific and rigorous tuning, of the bells that the herd will recognize on the hills. This is the result of a great technical mastery and a great domain of the art of sounds of metal idiophones called bells, produced in the Iberian Peninsula since the 1st century BC.Visiting the Bell Factory, you will accompanied, in a work context and with direct interaction with the protagonists, the various stages of bell manufacturing, and thus understand and observe the know-how associated with them. In the end, you can purchase various artisanal products available in the shop. Overnight and breakfeast in a castle from the XIII century (subject to availabity)

Day two

Figurado de Estremoz (UNESCO inscription 2017) Modeling life in clay, this is the theme of this journey dedicated to a traditional art of markedly artisanal character, transmitted in a family and workshop context, emblematic of this community that gives it its name: ‘Figurado de Estremoz’. This craft production, documented since the 17th century, is characterized by the manufacture of clay pieces of an eminently religious, symbolic, playful, or decorative nature, vividly polychromatic, which have been successively developed and incorporated into the local craft tradition.

Stroll in the Historic Center of Estremoz, with visits to workshops and figurado stores. Visit two workshops: Irmãs Flores and Afonso Ginja, which have open workshops to the public, where they create, produce, and sell their artifacts. There, the traveler can see the artisans modeling, painting, and firing the pieces of Estremoz figurado. In the end, you can take home some of these testimonies of a rare art. If the visit to Estremoz figurado takes place on a Saturday, you can visit and purchase figurado at the Saturday Market.
