Dark Sky Experience and Alentejo Traditions
Day 1
Morning:Â Arrival in the Alqueva Region
This region has been certified as a Dark Sky. It covers 10,000 km² of clear sky for stargazing. Several municipalities have come together to preserve astronomical observation with reduced street lighting.
Visit to the Dark Sky® Interpretation Centre and Observatory Astrophotography Exhibition: Works by Miguel Claro, an international astrophotographer. Mini-museum: See and touch an authentic meteorite and view the autograph of the last astronaut to go to the Moon.
Afternoon: Visit to Sharish Gin DistilleryGin Interpretation Centre (the only one in the Iberian Peninsula).Gin tastings and discovery of the distillation process.
Evening:Â Stargazing Experience Astronomical observation (subject to weather conditions).
Sleep in a 4 stars hotel
Day 2:
Morning: Visit to the Alentejo Wool Blanket Factory Origins of the blankets: Made to withstand the harsh winters of the Alentejo.Blankets woven tightly and waterproofed with olive oil. Part of the shepherds’ wages.The factory was saved by Mizette Nielsen and recently modernized by new owners.Visit to the Factory Shop.Lunch and Visit to Reguengos de Monsaraz Castle before returning.
