Douro International Landscape & Artisan Tour

Day 1: Exploring the Douro and Artisan Traditions

Morning: Douro International Landscape.  Visits to several viewpoints offering breathtaking views of the Douro International landscape. Observation of the stunning natural scenery, perfect for photography and immersion in the region’s  natural beauty.

Afternoon: Artisan Workshops in Miranda do Douro. Visit to local artisan workshops in the municipality of Miranda do Douro, to discover traditional crafts such as basketry, iron arts, weaving, and wool production. ( Subject to availability we can watch a performance by the Pauliteiros de Miranda, a traditional dance group known for their energetic stick dance to the sound of bagpipes.

Day 2:  Atenor, Vinhais & Local Traditions

Morning: Atenor – Miranda Donkey Preservation. Visit the  Association for the Study and Protection of Donkey Cattle (AEPGA) in Atenor and learn about the preservation efforts of the Miranda Donkey, an integral part of the region’s cultural and genetic heritage.Insight: Understand the NGO’s work since 2001 in promoting and preserving the breed.

Afternoon: Visit to  Vinhais to explore the local tradition of mask making and learn about the significant role of these masks in local festivals.  Discover artisans who create beautiful blankets and basket and  appreciate the techniques passed down through generations.
